Abstract

1528512 Portable containers CONTINENTAL GROUP Inc 2 Feb 1976 [13 Feb 1975] 04047/76 Heading B8D [Also in Division B3] A container bottom comprises a central concave portion 20 joined to the container side wall 14a by an annular convex rim portion 22 in which axially-extending radially-spaced feet 16 are formed, each foot having a radial profile of curved form CDE constituted by a series of tangential arcs CD, DE having separate centres of curvature I and H and preferably of unequal radii of curvature. The lateral margins of adjacent feet merge with the rim portion to form rib portions between respective pairs of feet each having a radial profile of curved form BF, preferably constituted by an arc having a radius of curvature R 4 and tangential with the side wall portion and the central concave portion which is also constituted by an arc AB having a radius of curvature R1 centred on the container axis 10a. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), each foot radial profile is constituted by a series of three tangential arcs BC, CD and DE. As shown, the container is a plastics, e.g. acrylic bottle, and is formed by blow-moulding utilizing a mould matrix, Fig. 5, having an internal profile complementary to bottle bottom described above. Alternatively, the container may be a metal can formed by a metal pressing operation utilizing a female die having an internal surface complementary to the container bottom described above.
