Abstract

1527886 Naphtholactam dyes CIBA-GEIGY AG 19 Nov 1975 [19 Nov 1974] 47704/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises dyestuffs of the general formula wherein ring a may bear a fused benzene ring or contain 1 or 2 nonionic substituents and ring b is substituted by 1 or 2 chlorine or bromine atoms or sulphonamido groups optionally substituted at the N atom by C 1 -C 4 -alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl or whose N atom forms part of a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring. They are prepared by condensing a compound of the general formula with a compound of the general formula wherein a and b are as above and the product is sulphonated. In an alternative process the cyanomethyl benzthiazole compound may be sulphonated before the condensation reaction. The dyes dye wool, silk and synthetic polyamides, e.g. nylon 6 or 66 in yellow to orange shades.
