1527615 Quaternary ammonium compounds KEMANORD AB 8 Oct 1975 [8 Oct 1974] 41273/75 Headings C2C and C2P [Also in Divisions C3 and D2] Compounds useful for treating textile material, cellulosic materials and paper additives have as cations a group of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are each, independently, an aliphatic group containng up to 22 carbon atoms, at least one of R 1 and R 2 having at least 7 carbon atoms, R 3 is a benzyl group or an alkyl group containing up to 6 carbon atoms, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each, independently, hydrogen or methyl, n is from 0 to 6, m is 1 or 2 and X is one of the following groups: or The anion component may be a chloride, bromide, hydroxyl, methyl sulphate or sulphate ion. The compounds are made by reacting the above compounds where X = OH with formaldehyde and HCl, phosgene, thiophosgene, phosphoryl chloride or sulphuryl chloride.
