Abstract
1331039 Flame retardant phosphine oxides BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc 10 May 1972 [12 July 1971] 21891/72 Heading C2P [Also in Division D1] Novel compounds of Formula I: where R is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl, X is hydrogen or methyl, and R 1 and R 2 are methyl, ethyl or propyl, may be prepared by reacting a di-(C 1-6 alkyl) phosphine oxide with acrylamide or methacrylamide, and reacting the intermediate formed, with a suitable carbonyl compound, e.g. formaldehyde. The intermediate 3-(dimethylphosphinyl) propionamide is isolated. The compounds of Formula I may be used as flameproofing agents for cellulosic materials.
