1527379 Visual data display systems VDO ADOLF SCHINDLING AG 29 Sept 1975 [3 Oct 1974 13 Dec 1974] 39827/75 Heading H4T A data display system comprises at least one (as shown, three) visual display unit having an image screen, 4, 5, 6, at least two (as shown, three) symbol generators 1, 2, 3 generating the same data for the visual display unit(s), and switching means 7, 8, 9 for successive momentary switching of the individual symbol generators to the visual display unit(s). The switching frequency is less than 10 Hz, preferably 0À5 Hz. As shown, each symbol generator is switched in turn to a different display unit. Each symbol generator may also generate an identifying mark 11, 12, 13, e.g. of different geometrical shapes or appearing in different locations on the image screens. In use, faults in the system are made apparent to a viewer by flickering of the image or disturbance of the periodicity of appearance of the marks 11, 12, 13; manual switching out of each symbol generator in turn will reveal the faulty one.
