Abstract

1527291 Electro-photographic developer HITACHI METALS Ltd 17 Feb 1976 [21 Feb 1975] 06205/76 Heading G2C A developer powder of resistivity between 10<SP>2</SP> and 10<SP>8</SP> ohm cm comprises spherical particles of resistivity of not more than 10<SP>12</SP> ohm cm and comprising a polymeric binder, magnetic particles and electrically conductive particles in which are embedded in the surface futher conductive particles so that the resistivity of the surface is less than the core. Specified binders are (a) a mixture of wax and ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, (b) polystyrene and (c) epoxy resin whereas C black is the specified conductive particle and magnetite, ferrites, chromium oxide are specified magnetic particles. A dry lubricant such as silica or alumina may be added to the particles. The powder may be made by mixing the binder, magnetic particles and conductive particles at a temperature at which the binder fuses, pulverizing the cooled mixture and dispersing the particles produced into a hot air stream to produce spherical particles, adding the 2<SP>cd</SP> conductive particles and mixing in a hot air stream to embed the 2<SP>cd</SP> particles in the surface.
