1527181 Anti-hypertensive compositions comprising arylalanines MERCK & CO INC 10 Feb 1977 [13 Feb 1976] 5520/77 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions having antihypertensive activity comprise (A) an arylalanine compound of formula (I):- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein each of R 1 and R 2 is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, and R 3 is (i) a substituted benzene ring of formula: in which Y 1 is cyanamino, carboxyl, cyano, thiocarbamoyl, aminoethyl, guanidino, methanesulphonamido, nitro, amino, methanesulphonoyloxy, carboxymethoxy, formyl, methoxy or an optionally substituted 5- or 6-membered heterocycle containing carbon and one or more N, S or O atoms, and Y 2 is hydrogen, hydroxy or a radical as defined for Y 1 ; or (ii) a substituted or unsubstituted indolin- 5-yl, 1-(N-benzoyl carbamimidoyl)-indolin-5- yl, 1-carbamimidoylindolin-5-yl, 1-H-2-oxindol -5-yl, indol-5-yl, 2-mercaptobenzimidazol-5 (6)-yl, 2-amino-benzimidazol-5 (6)-yl, 2-methanesulphanamido-benzimidazol-5 (6) - yl, 1H - benzoxazol-2 - on - 6-yl, 2-aminobenzothiazol-6-yl, 2-amino-4-mercapto-benzothiazol- 6-yl, 2, 1, 3-benzothiadiazol-5-yl, 1, 3-dihydro- 2, 2-dioxo-2, 1, 3-benzothiadiazol-5-yl, 1, 3- dihydro-1, 3-dimethyl-2, 2-dioxo-2, 1, 3-benzothiadiazol-5-yl, 4-methyl-2 (1H)-oxoquinolin-6- yl, quinoxalin-6-yl, 2-hydroxy-quinoxalin-6-yl, 2-hydroxyquinoxalin-7-yl, 2, 3-dihydroxyquinoxalin-7-yl, 2, 3 dihydroxyquinoxalin-6-yl or 2, 3-dihydro-3 (4H)-oxo-1, 4-benzoxazin-7-yl ring; or (iii) a substituted or unsubstituted 5-hydroxy-4H-pyran-4-on-2-yl, 2-hydroxy-pyrid-4-yl, 2-amino-pyrid-4-yl, 2-carboxypyrid- 4-yl or tetrazolo [1, 5-a] pyrid-7-yl ring, and (B) a decarboxylase inhibitor of formula (II):- wherein each of R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
