1527133 Substituted imidazobenzodiazepines and their pharmaceutical compositions F HOFFMAXN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 10 Sept 1975 [11 Sept 1974] 12689/78 Divided out of 1527131 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of general Formula I wherein R 1 represents hydrogen, C 1-7 alkyl, phenyl, alkoxy-C 1-7 alkyl, substituted phenyl, pyridyl, or aralkyl; R 2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R 3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R 6 is phenyl, mono- or di-substituted phenyl, pyridyl or mono-substituted pyridyl, but is not nitro-substituted; R 7 is hydroxy, acyl or an aromatic or aliphatic sulphonyl group and the ring Z is selected from systems having the Formulae I(a), (b), (c) and (d) wherein R, represents hydrogen, halogen, CN CF 3 , C 1-7 alkyl, hydroxy-C 1-7 alkyl or C 1-7 alkanoyl; X represents H, Cl, Br or I and T is hydrogen or C 1-7 alkyl and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. which may be prepared by reaction of the corresponding compound in which R 7 is hydrogen with an acylating or sulphonylating agent or by reducing the corresponding N-oxide with, e.g. borohydride (for details see copending Specification 1,527,131). Pharmaceutical compositions having muscle relaxant, sedative and anti-convulsant activity for intravenous and intramuscular application comprise a compound of Formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof together with a therapeutically compatible carrier or excipient.
