Abstract
152,669. Adrema Maschinenbau Ges. Oct. 18, 1919, [Convention date]. Addressing - machines; tripping and like arrangements.- In an addressing-machine of the type wherein the printing plates are slid forward by oscillation of the lever which carries an impression pad movable relative to it, as in the manner described in Specification 145,534, the impression pad is moved when the lever descends into or out of position to affect an impression or not from the printing- plate in printing position at that moment by means of an electro-magnet energized by the completion of one or more electric circuits by one or more contacts adapted to be closed by projections on the underside of the printing-plates, the projection on each printing-plate being positioned to correspond with one particular contact device in the slide track, whereby by closing hand switches in one or more of the circuits, impressions are taken from the corresponding printing- plates but not from the others. Figs. 1 and 3 show an arrangement for taking impressions from one or other, or both, of two groups of printing- plates, comprising a slide track a with two slots e into which project the vertical arms of two pivoted contact-levers f, f<1>, and Fig. 10 shows the differently positioned or staggered projections c on the two groups of printing-plates b1 the projection or the lower plate being adapted to contact with the contact-lever f, and that on the upper plate with the contact-lever f<1>. From the two contact-springs k, k', branch circuits proceed to indicating lamps m, m<1>, and switches l, l<1>, and thence to the electro-magnet n, which actuates the mechanism for moving the impression-pad into position for an impression to be taken. As shown in Fig. 5, this mechanism comprises a two-armed pivoted armature p weighted so that a pin q thereon normally maintains the extension r of a weighed lever s in depressed position. The main operating lever 2 is mounted on a pivot 1, which supports also a lever z connected by links 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 to a shaft 9, on which the roller controlling the position of the impression-pad is mounted. When both switches l, l<1> are interrupted, no energizing of the magnet n takes place when the projections c on the printing-plates b engage the contact-levers f, f<1>, and the lever z swings freely with the operating lever 2, without oscillating the shaft 9. By closing one or both of the switches l, l<1>, the magnet n is energized by the passage of each printing-plate of one or both groups past the levers f, f<1>, thereby attracting the armature p and allowing the pawl u at the end of the lever r to lock the end of the lever z. At the next descent of the operating lever 2, the arrangement of links 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 will be distorted as shown in Fig. 8, the link 7 thereby rocking the shaft 9 and lowering the impression-pad so that an impression is made. The armature p, after being raised by the momentary energizing of the magnet n, is held in raised position during the period of the downward swing of the operating lever 2 by the engagement of a pawl w on a two-armed lever x, y, with an arm r fast on the armature shaft.
