Abstract

Blind-stitching machines.-Relates to feed. take-up, and needle-driving mechanisms for blindstitching machines having the stitch-forming devices and the feed-dog above the work. The needle-lever 12 is oscillated about a pivot 13 carried by a frame 15 pivoted at its upper end for oscillation in the plane of the pivot 13. The needle-lever is connected by a universally-jointed pitman 18 to a lever 20 actuated by a link 24 and a crank-pin 25. The are of oscillation of the needle can be shifted by rotating an eccentric mount 22 containing the pivot pin 23 of the lever 20. The take-up 40 is secured to a sleeve 39 pivoted to the frame at 37 and actuated by a rod 35 sliding within it and pivoted at 34 to a cranked extension of the link 24. The feed-bar 72 is pivoted at 81 to a lever 82 turning in a bearing bracket 85. The upper end of the lever carries an adjustable tappet surface 88 which is engaged by a roller 87 on the take-up sleeve 39. The oscillation of the lever 82 and the consequent extent of the feed is determined by the position of the part 88 and that is fixed by a screw 91. The return motion may be occasioned by a spring 94 or the tappet surface 88 may be replaced by a cam groove embracing the roller 87. The bearing-pin 83 is fixed within an eccentric sleeve 84 in the boss of the lever 82, and by turning the sleeve the length of the arm 82 can be varied. The up-and-down movement of the feed-dogs is imparted to them by means of a rigid extension 104 linked by a pitman 111 of adjustable length to a pin 112 on the needle-actuating lever 20. The feed-bar 72, Fig. 5, is of horseshoe shape and is resilient, and a pate 78 can be turned back as shown to give access to the loop-taker through the centre hollow of the feed-bar.
