Abstract

1526602 Treating textiles DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 4 Feb 1977 04701/77 Addition to 1474398 Heading DIP A stable, dry, particulate hydrosulphite composition, which can be added to water for decolouring, stripping, clearing, scouring or removing tint from dyed textile material, for cleaning dyeing equipment or for bleaching textiles comprises a mixture containing by weight (A) 100 parts of an alkali metal, ammonium and/or zinc hydrosulphite, (based on an assay value of 100%); (B) 37.5 to 214 parts of a pH builder selected from sodium, potassium and/or ammonium carbonate, bicarbonate and/or sesquicarbonate; (C) 37.5 to 286 parts of a pH buffer selected from triM phosphate, diM phosphate, Mtripolyphosphate or tetraM pyrophosphate, where M is sodium potassium or ammonium, sodium or potassium silicate having a silica to alkali metal oxide ratio of 0.5 to 3.3, borax or mixtures thereof; and (D) and/or (E), wherein (D) comprises 0.9 to 14.5 parts of a thermal stabiliser for the hydrosulphite selected from a sodium or potassium salt of an alkanoic acid of 1 to 12 carbon atoms and/or of a benzoic acid optionally substituted with e.g. an amino, hydroxyl or methyl group; and (E) comprises 3.4 to 107 parts of an anionic, ampholytic or nonionic detergent. Preferably the hydrosulphite is an alkali metal hydrosulphite, the pH builder is sodium carbonate, the pH buffer is sodium orthosilicate, sodium metasilicate and/or trisodium phosphate, the thermal stabiliser is sodium or potassium acetate or benzoate and the detergent is nonionic. Many examples of the detergent are given. The textile material may be fibres, fabrics or garments of nylon, polyester, acrylic, polyolefin, wool, cotton and/or silk.
