Abstract
1526396 Cathode ray tube displays SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Oct 1975 [3 Oct 1974]. 43022/74 Heading H4T [Also in Division G4] A display system utilizing a c.r.t. or matrixdisplay device for use in a craft for example, comprises a display area point-by-point scanned, a memory for storing information relating to mapping of the image in the display area corresponding to a datum attitude of the craft, means for deriving signals in accordance with scanning of the display area, a transformation process dependent on attitude change of the craft being applied to the said signals and the process being effective to map the display point by point through the scan into the datum mapping so as to identify for each successive display point a corresponding point of the stored datum mapping, and means for reading from the memory information relating to each corresponding point and for controlling brightup of each corresponding point of the display, In Fig. 1 a display of flight and weapon aiming information such as shown in Fig. 2 is provided in the head up arrangement including partially transparent reflector 1 and c.r.t. 5 or a matrix display. Waveform generator 17 provides a raster time-base and video signals in accordance with signals from attitude, and other, sensors 18 and weapon aiming, or other, computer 19. Information displayed may be digital and/or analogue. Transformation is discussed w.r.t. Fig. 3 (not shown) and the electrical circuitry of Fig. 4 (not shown) including computing units (20), (21), which compute the instantaneous values of x p and y P supply signals to address memory (22). Each unit comprises four adders (23) to (26) and two registers (27), (28), operational details being included. Memory (22) may store picture information concerning each individual line or other symbol element of a family of such elements, or may store information sufficient only to define one line or other element, together with information as to the spacing and orientation of the other individual members. Pictures derived by a TV or infra-red camera may be combined with video signals as from generator 17. The camera may view the same external scene as the pilot, or which but for lack of visibility, would be viewed.
