Abstract
1526258 Disc brakes; brake pads AKEBONO BRAKE INDUSTRY CO Ltd 6 Nov 1975 46038/75 Heading F2E The caliper 6 of a disc brake is slidably guided on pins 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which are fitted to a fixed support 1a, the support 1a also supporting a front friction pad 10a and a rear friction pad 10; in the brake of the invention, as opposed to that of the prior art (Figs. 1-3, not shown) the support 1 is formed without protrusions (14) at the front for guidance of pad 10a, whereby the disc 9 may be inserted into the brake from the front. The back plate 12 of the rear friction pad 10 has protrusions (16) for co-operation with guide grooves 15 in the support 1a while the back plate 12a of the front pad 10a has straight edge faces 17 for sliding contact with faces 19 on support 1a, and is also formed with claws 18 which engage pins 5, 5<SP>1</SP> to support the weight of the pad 10a. The caliper 6, which may be rotated on pin 5<SP>1</SP> after removal of pin 5 during assembly of the disc brake, incorporates two pistons 11 for actuation of pad 10, pad 10a being actuated by reaction through the caliper 6. In the embodiment of Fig. 9, an elastic (e.g. rubber) cover 22 is fitted between pin 5<SP>1</SP>a and a supporting hole 21 in support la to absorb deformation of support la duringbrake actuation with the disc rotating in direction A. Metal or plastic sleeves 23 are press fitted into hole 21 to hold cover 22. A metal sleeve 25 inserted in a hole 24 in support la surrounds the pin 5a. Locking nuts are threadedly fitted to pins 5a, 5<SP>1</SP>a. The arrangement is said to prevent vehicle vibration being transmitted to caliper 6.
