JEBSING INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 29 July 1976 31703/76 Heading A6S A steering control mechanism for a toy motor car, &c. comprises a plate 23, Figs. 1, 3, shown as a toothed wheel, mounted for rotation, an electric motor, &c. for driving the wheel, &c. in either direction, and a friction member, shown as a butterfly spring 22, in contact with a surface of the plate for sliding motion with friction thereon, the friction member being connected to a control finger 19, 20, (see also Fig. 4) for a steering mechanism, so that motion of the friction member causes motion of the control finger. A track rod 15, Fig. 1, has a slot 18 engaged by the control finger 19, 20 and is pivoted at its ends to arms 11, 12 of swivel pins 6, 7 journalling road wheels 4, 5. Stops 16, 17 at each end of the track rod 15 engage the arms 11, 12, respectively, of the swivel pins, Fig. 1a, to limit the axial movement of the track rod and the amount the wheels 4, 5 can be turned. The toothed wheel 23, Fig. 5, may have studs, &c. 26 on its surface to increase the frictional engagement with the butterfly spring 22. The toothed wheel 23 Fig. I, is meshed by a worm 24 on a shaft 25 powered via reduction gearing by an electric motor (not shown) under the control of a cable-connected remote actuator. When the motor drives the rod 15 in one direction or the other, it moves until its stop 16 or 17 engages the arm 11 or 12: the wheel 23 then turns relatively to the butterfly spring 19, so that the motor is not held stationary while current flows through it with risk of consequential burnout.
