1525385 KOH electrolyte with silicate ions SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 3 Nov 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 47797/74 Addition to 1411911 Heading H1B A method of forming an electrochemical system comprising placing a zinc electrode in contact with an aqueous alkaline electrolyte consisting of an aqueous solution containing 2 to 4À75 mol.litre<SP>-1</SP> of potassium hydroxide, 9 to 36 gram ions.litre<SP>-1</SP> of silicate ions and an inert water soluble additive which reduces the vapour pressure of the electrolyte. The additive may be an inorganic salt, e.g. potassium fluoride or an organic compound, e.g. ethylene glycol in an amount of 2 to 5 moles litre<SP>-1</SP> and the electrolyte may contain a mixture of additives.
