Abstract

1525200 Steam curling BRISTOL-MYERS CO 20 May 1977 [14 Feb 1977] 21329/77 Heading A4V In a steam curling iron wherein liquid is delivered from a reservoir within a tubular member 312 to a chamber 112 from whence it is vapourized by an electric heater (88, 118) to provide steam at apertures (134) on the surface of the iron, a valve 336 is provided in the liquid delivery passage 330, the valve being controlled by a bi-metallic element 504 so that the valve can only be opened when the heater temperature is sufficient to vapourize the liquid. As shown, upon actuation of a plunger (320), a piston 324 forces the liquid through the passage 330 the valve 336 opening against a biasing spring 340 but if the heater has not reached a correct high temperature the bi-metallic element 504 moves Fig. 7 (not shown) a tube 502 against the valve and prevents its opening. The iron includes a clip (42) to secure the end of a tress of hair wound around the iron, the clip being movable both pivotally and laterally by a button (30). The iron also includes a thermostat (90), a fuse (92) and a neon lamp (94).
