A tubular upright 10 of a scaffold element is accommodated in the vertical tube 3 and a side arm 11 of the scaffold element is located in a notch 5 in any of a number of angular positions. A wedge 15 locks the upright 10 in the selected position. The tubular crown may be welded, as in Fig. 2, or rotatably mounted with locking means.
