Abstract

1524440 Stabilization of polyacetals by heat treatment SOC ITALIANA RESINE SIR SpA 23 Dec 1976 [23 Dec 1975] 53736/76 Heading C3P The degradation of unstable chains in etherified homopolyacetals derived from formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, chloral, trioxan or tetraoxan or copolymers of such compounds with non-aldehyde monomers, either polymer having a M.W. of at least 10,000, is achieved by dissolving the polymer in a polar aprotic liquid organic solvent and heating the solution at 100‹ to 200‹ C. in the presence of a base. Suitable solvents are D.M.F., dimethyl acetamide, ethyl succinamide, lactones, diethoxyethane, trioxan, tetraoxan, pyrrolidone, epsilon caprolactam, omega lauryl lactam, chlorobenzene dichlorobenzenes, nitrobenzene, DMSO, dimethyl sulphone, and hexamethyl phosphoric triamide.
