Abstract
1524254 Vacuum cleaners GOBLIN (BVC) Ltd 27 Aug 1976 [1 Sept 1975] 36006/75 Heading A4F A vacuum cleaner comprises a drum 2 having a cap 22 supporting a motor assembly 23 for driving an impeller to create a vacuum within the drum, a cleaning head 25 coupled to an inlet near the base of the drum, and a conduit 29 leading from the inlet and whose free end is positioned or positionable above the level of the inlet. The conduit 29 may as shown be a flexible hose having an elbow 30 at its free end which can be releasably secured to a support 36 at the top of the drum so that when sucking in liquid waste, liquid is directed tangentially of the drum wall to produce a cyclone effect. The drum can be drained of liquid by releasing the elbow 30 and dropping it to the bottom of the drum to allow the liquid to drain through the inlet. For solid waste the elbow 30 is positioned at the bottom of the drum with a dust bag attached. Instead of a flexible hose, the inlet may communicate with a valve which can connect the inlet either with an upwardly extending rigid conduit or directly with the interior of the drum. A filter 40 is used to protect the motor assembly 23, and a sensor 42 may be provided to stop operation of the cleaner should the level of liquid in the drum become too high. The cleaning head 25 is coupled to a socket 24 attached to the inlet, the head being coupled by a bayonet coupling which allows the head to be rotated 180 degrees from the illustrated operative position to an inoperative position. The drum 2 is mounted on a trolley 3 having rubber members 16, which can absorb shocks, and wheels 6, 13. The wheels 13 are castors which are adjustable for height.
