1524058 Settling apparatus REDERIAKTIEBOLAGET NORDSTJERNAN 26 Nov 1975 [29 Nov 1974] 48673/75 Heading BID Apparatus for separating from a liquid phase a suspended or emulsified component which is lighter than the liquid phase, e.g. oil from water comprises a tank containing a plurality of inclined parallel guide plates 1 defining separation spaces 5 into which the suspension is introduced for upward flow therein and, arranged above the outlet ends thereof, a plurality of inverted trough elements 4 arranged to capture the separated lighter component flowing up adjacent the underside of each guide plate, the liquid phase passing through openings between the troughs. The trough elements may be inclined in correspondence with the tops of the guide plates to direct the captured phase upwardly to outlets 9 leading to a collecting chamber 10 therefore. A similar collecting chamber 7 may be provided for the liquid phase. The outlet 11 for lighter phase is suitably above that 8 for the liquid phase. Instead of separate trough elements a single corrugated element may be used, the crests thereof providing the inverted troughs and the troughs thereof having openings to allow outlet of liquid phase (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown). In a further embodiment the trough elements may extend only partially over the width of the separation spaces (Fig. 5 not shown). Incoming suspension may be supplied from below the plates or at an intermediate level in the separation spaces. Reference is made to Specifications 1219982 and 1343061.
