Abstract

1523534 Ophthalmic glass CORNING GLASS WORKS 19 May 1976 [7 Nov 1975] 20644/76 Addition to 1509573 Heading C1M A ZnO-free glass (having a refractive index of 1À58-1À71, softening point 630-675‹ C., strain point 450-500‹ C., and coefficient of thermal expansion (25-300‹ C.) 45-60 Î 10<SP>-7‹</SP> C.<SP>-1</SP>) consists essentially of, in weight per cent, to an extent of at least 90%: B 2 O 3 3-7 Al 2 O 3 3-11 PbO 30-60 SiO 2 27-55 but glasses claimed in Specification 1,509,573 are disclaimed. The balance of the glass may include up to 6% La 2 O 3 , up to 10% BaO, up to 3% Li 2 O and/or Na 2 O, and/or up to 3% TiO 2 . Up to 0À5% of Sb 2 O 3 and/or As 2 O 3 may be present as a firing agent. The glass may be fused to a photochromic glass portion in making a multifocal lens.
