Abstract

1523002 Collapsible containers AIRFLEX CONTAINERS Ltd and C D D HICKEY 11 Jan 1977 [9 Jan 1976] 00844/76 Heading B8K A container comprises a rigid base 10, e.g. a pallet, one or more supports 13 rigidly secured on the base with means for carrying an article, e.g. 24, 25, on said support(s), a first flexible impermeable sheet 30 sealed around or under or passing through the support(s) to form an undersheet beneath the article(s), a second flexible impermeable sheet 34 to form an oversheet over the article(s) and support(s), means for sealing the peripheries of the two sheets together, and valve means in at least one of the sheets whereby suction and/or pressure may be applied and maintained in the space between the sheets. The sheet edges are preferably sealed by an inflatable tube 35, which may be integral with one of the sheets, inserted in a channel member 37 either on supports 38 or on the base 10. The sheet 30 is sealed where it passes the support 13 by a flange 31 which presses it against a resilient pad 12 on the base 10. The articles 24, 25 are carried on fingers 20, 21 of arms 14, 15 pivoted to the support 13 and movable by hydraulic rams 16, 17. The base may have sockets to receive ports for stacking containers and may have extension pieces for large loads.
