Abstract
1522947 Gas turbine engines; combustion system monitoring GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 22 April 1977 [27 Dec 1976] 16804/77 Headings F1G and FIT A gas turbine engine comprises means for detecting malfunctions of the combustion system and for causing fuel flow to the combustion system to shut off in the event of such malfunction. The detection means comprises a temperature sensor 62 for sensing temperature of air discharged from the engine compressor, and a plurality of sensors 50 shown disposed in the exhaust gas outlet 52 from the turbine 16 for sensing temperature of the hot gas stream generated in the combustion system. Means are provided for automatically and repeatedly scanning each temperature sensor and for determining the median temperature sensed by the hot gas stream temperature sensors during each scan, for determining a high and low trip limit for each complete scan as a function of the reading of the compressor discharge temperature sensor and the median temperature, for automatically comparing each hot gas stream temperature sensor reading with the high and low trip limits, and for generating a signal operative to cause the control means to shut off fuel flow to the combustion system when a predetermined number of the hot gas stream temperature sensors are outside the trip limits in a predetermined pattern.
