Abstract

Complex ores or their products are roasted with an alkali chloride at about 400 DEG C. or lower with access of air so as to selectively chloridize the lead and silver, and the product is then leached with hot alkali chloride solution to dissolve the lead and silver, and afterwards, if desired, with a solution of sodium thiosulphate to extract the silver. The leaching solution is treated with metallic zinc, galvanized iron, aluminium or the like to obtain the lead and silver, and the deposited metal may be compressed under water to avoid oxidation, and is finally melted down, or the metals may be obtained from the solution electrolytically. The residue from the leaching is treated by the "acid-oil froth process" to obtain a zinc sulphide concentrate. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes an alternative in which the ore is roasted at similar or higher temperatures so as to chloridize all the metals, and states that the second leaching solution may be treated to obtain the metals as above described, or may be first mixed with the alkali chloride solution, the mixture being treated as above described to obtain the metals. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
