Abstract

152,225. Ellis, A. E. Nov. 19, 1919. Spring wheels with sectional outer guided members.-Relates to vehicle wheels of the type described in Specification 13561/09. The rim comprises segmental sections 13 with cushioning means 14, arranged end to end and forming a substantially continuous rim. A series of articulated sections 16 are connected bv bolts 22 to the rim sections 13 near the ends of the latter, and by hinge-pins 19 to each other. Floating levers 31 seat upon the hinge bosses 30 and are pivoted at 32 to levers 33. Each lever 33 has a pivot 34 upon a bracket 35 rigid with the felloe. A spring 42 connects the inner end of each radial lever 31 with the free end of the adjacent lever 33. The levers 31 are normally held against stops 43 on the brackets 35. The rim is thus held under centrifugal pressure, and the rotation of the levers about their fulcra 32 permits a limited relative circumferential movement between the rim and the felloe.
