Abstract

1521536 Introducing additives below soil surface B H NORBURY 5 Aug 1976 [5 Aug 1975] 32695/75 Heading A1B A device for introducing additives etc. under a top layer of soil or turf without breaking up or over-turning that layer is provided with a cutter disc 2 which cuts a vertical incision in the soil and a lifting shoe 3 which lifts up the soil 6 on one side of the .incision as the device advances. Gaseous, liquid or solid additives are introduced under the soil layer 6 from a hopper 11 via a flexible conduit 10. Tines (not shown) may be provided on the underside of the lifter 3 to scarify the subsoil, and the soil layer 6, returning to its original position after passing over the shoe, is pressed firmly back into place by a roller wheel 8. A number of such devices may be provided in a transverse row on the frame 1 adapted to be towed by a tractor. The device may be provided with a seeding attachment and may be adapted for the laying at shallow depths underground of flexible cables, conduits and pipes.
