Abstract

1521262 Vehicle wheels GKN SANKEY Ltd 23 July 1975 [27 July 1974] 33296/74 Heading B7C [Also in Division B3] In a vehicle disc wheel, or demountable rim assembly, including an asymmetrical rim 14 having first and second axially spaced bead seats 16, 19, a well 21, and a ledge 18, usually cylindrical, between the first bead seat and the well, a disc 15 or adaptor band (51, Fig. 5, not shown), is T-joint butt fusion welded to the radially inner surface of the rim at a position such that the inner edge 40 of the disc or band nearest the well is located within an axial distance of B/5 from the first bead seat/ledge transition, where B is the minimum axial length of the first bead seat. The angle A between the centre line of the edge portion of the disc and a plane normal to the wheel axis is preferably 0-30 degrees. The disc/rim offset may be varied by varying the outside diameter of the disc. The T-joint may comprise one or both of welds 38, 39.
