1521207 Dewatering sludge CHAMPION INTERNATIONAL CORP 28 Oct 1976 [18 Nov 1975] 44741/76 Heading C1C A method of treating activated sludge to facilitate dewatering thereof comprises acidifying the sludge to a pH not greater than 2À2, heating the acidified sludge to from 150‹ F. to 210‹ F. and maintaining the sludge at this temperature for a time sufficient, as determined by gravity settling rate tests on samples of the heated acidified sludge, to obtain a settling rate in the first three minutes of test of at least # of an inch per minute. The sludge is preferably acidified with hydrochloric or sulphuric acid.
