Abstract
1520372 Regulating IC engines NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 17 May 1976 [15 May 1975] 20238/76 Headings F1B and F1H Engine 10 has inlet manifold 12, carburetter 24 and exhaust gas recirculation duct 18, the rate of exhaust gas recirculation being controlled at 12 to 25% by valve 20. To compensate for reduced flame propagation speed, two spark-plugs are provided at diametrally opposite positions in each combustion chamber. The exhaust valves 30 of adjacent cylinders open into a common port 28 and both ports 28 lead into manifold 14 and an exhaust pipe which leads to catalytic oxidation reactor 22. Engine driven pump 34 supplies air, at a pressure controlled by relief valve 40, through check-valve 42 to gallery 36 and air injectors 38. To prevent enrichment of the mixture supplied to the engine due to an abrupt increase in manifold vacuum during deceleration an air dashpot damper is provided which resists the force of a spring-biasing the throttle valve towards the closed position, Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, the throttle valve is held in a partly-open position, shown by dot-dash lines in Fig. 4 when solenoid 72 is energized by the closure of switches 76 and 78. Switch 76 is closed when the throttle valve is closed from the position shown in Fig. 4 by dotdash lines. Switch 78 is normally open and is closed when the vehicle/speed exceeds a predetermined value e.g. 10km/hr.
