Abstract
1520121 Frequency dividers FERRANTI Ltd 25 Feb 1976 [25 Feb 1975] 7728/75 Heading H3T A frequency divider comprises an arrangement 11, operable to invert and/or offset selectively at least part of alternate cycles of a periodic input signal at 19 to produce at 38 a signal of lower frequency and an arrangement 13 for deriving from the input signal a switching signal for controlling the inverting and/or offsetting. The arrangement 11 includes an amplifier 14 which operates in an inverting mode when its positive input is earthed by a switch 22 turned on by the switching signal derived via an integrator 25, a comparator 26 and a bistable circuit 27. When the switch 22 is turned off, the amplifier operates in a differential mode with the difference in input voltages determined by the charge voltage on a capacitor 21. The output of amplifier 14 has a waveform corresponding to the square of a sinusoidal signal of half the frequency and twice the amplitude of the input signal and may be applied via a function generator 12 e.g. a square rooting circuit. The input signal may be a sawtooth wave.
