1520048 Device for applying and removing crown corks R GERARD 20 July 1976 [29 July 1975] 30202/76 Heading B8T A hand tool for removing and replacing crowncork closures comprises jaws 5a, 5b pivotally coupled at 10, 11 and threadedly engaged by respective thread portions 17, 16 of opposite hand on a shaft 3 which extends through apertures in extensions 12 of the jaws, the arrangement being such that with the closure replaced and pressed into engagement with the bottle top and jaws 5a, 5b encircling the closure, downward movement of handgrip 21 causes shaft 3 to rotate, being fast in depending supports 7, and jaws 5a, 5b to tighten about the closure and reseal it. To remove the closure lugs 14 on jaws 5a, 5b are engaged thereunder and handgrip 21 is lifted. With this action jaws 5a, 5b move apart. The removal may be facilitated by a projection 20 which bears on the closure as handgrip 21 is lifted as well as by tongues 15 on jaws 5a, 5b, the tongues also facilitating initial placement of the tool on the closure. Projection 20 marks the cap to show that removal has taken place; additionally or alternatively tongues 15 may be shaped to mark the closure or be provided with projections for this purpose. Handgrip 21 may be of plastics or wood and the remainder of the tool of nickel steel.
