Abstract

1519957 Improving dispersibility of single cell protein IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 July 1975 [16 Oct 1974] 44764/74 Heading C6F Cells of the species Pseudomonas methylotropha or Pseudomonas rosea produced in a process for the production of single cell protein by cultivation upon an aqueous nutrient medium containing methanol as an assimilable carbon source, as described and claimed in Specification No. 1370892, are treated in aqueous suspension with a proteolytic enzyme or a proteolytic enzyme preparation specified, and the treated cells are subsequently dried. The enzymic treatment is carried out at a pH of 3À5-10À0 and a temperature of 25‹-90‹C for 5-120 minutes. The dispersibility of the cells in water is considerably improved by the treatment, rendering them more suitable as a milk replacement for young animals e.g. calves.
