Abstract

1519472 Terpolymerization of ethylene propylene and butadiene ANIC SpA 17 July 1975 [2 Aug 1974] 30116/75 Heading C3P Ethylene, propylene and butadiene are terpolymerized in a hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon solvent using a catalyst system comprising (a) a vanadium compound (b) a compound of the formula AlR1R2X where R1 and R2 are selected from hydrogen and C1-C18 hydrocarbyl groups and X is halogen (c) a Lewis or Bronsted acid (other than an organic compound containing a -CX3 group) and (d) an organic compound containing a -CX3 group where X is halogen. In the examples the polymerization is carried out in toluene in the presence of vanadium triacetylacetonate, AlEt2Cl, AlEtCl2 and either trichloroacetic acid or its methyl ester.
