Abstract

1519303 Corrosion inhibition CHEMED CORP 4 July 1975 [3 Dec 1974] 28403/75 Heading C7E A non-chromate-containing corrosion inhibiting composition comprises (1) 1-80 wt. per cent of an azole (2) 0À1-95 wt. per cent soluble phosphate and (3) 1-80 wt. per cent of where q = 1-10, or a soluble salt or ester thereof. A diluted composition may contain 30-99% water; in use 0À1-50,000 p.p.m. of each ingredient (1) to (3) is maintained in water in contact with Fe, Cu, Al, or Zn to inhibit corrosion thereof. Compound (1) is selected from triazoles, pyrazoles, imidazoles, isoxazoles, oxazoles, isothiazoles and thiazoles, (2) is H 3 PO 4 , Na 2 HPO 4 , Na tripolyphosphate and/or K 4 P 2 O 7 and (3) may be 2-hydroxy propylene-1, 3-diamine tetramethyl phosphonic acid; an ester of (3) with a C 1 -C 4 alcohol may be used, or an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, Zn, Co, Pb, Sn, Ni, NH 4 , amine or lower alkanolamine salt thereof. The composition may also contain a dispersing agent, pH regulator or microbicide, and may be added to an aqueous system as a briquette, dry powder, or aqueous solution.
