Abstract

1390843 Inhibiting corrosion CHEMED CORP 24 March 1972 [22 April 1971] 13898/72 Heading C7E A corrosion-inhibiting composition comprises (a) a water-soluble hydroxyamine phosphate ester or soluble derivative thereof (b) a soluble Zn compound to give 0À005 - 15 wt. parts Zn<SP>++</SP> per part of (a), and (c) 0À005-15 parts soluble 1, 2, 3, triazole or soluble derivative thereof per part of (a). Corrosion of metals, e.g. Fe, Cu, or Al in contact with aqueous liquid is inhibited by maintaining therein 0À5 to 1000 ppm of (a), and 0À0025- 15000 ppm of each of (b) and (c); the liquid may be in a water treatment system, cooling water, pickling liquid, hydraulic fluid, anti-freeze, or oil well. In compound (a), the hydroxyamine may be di-or tri-ethanolamine, an oxyalkylated amine, a mono- or poly-amine, and may have 2-6 hydroxy groups; it is reacted with P 2 O 5 or polyphosphoric acid to give compound (a); the ester thus formed may be neutralized with Na or K hydroxide or carbonate or ammonia or an amine to give a corresponding salt; Zn, Co, Cr, Pb, Sn, and Ni salts of the ester may also be used. Compound (b) may be Zn sulphate, chloride, nitrate, acetate or oxide, or a Zn salt of (a) above, and (c) may be 1, 2, 3 triazole, or an alkyl substituted triazole or benzotriazole; alkali metal and NH 4 salts thereof may also be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1218276.
