Abstract

1518946 Credit cards and the like THOMAS DE LA RUE & CO Ltd 26 Feb 1976 [27 Nov 1974] 51385/74 Heading B6A A credit or like card is produced by inkprinting, under safe-light conditions, visible markings on to a light sensitive layer on a support sheet and recording an image upon the layer by a photographic process. The visible markings may be an overall or partial covering in the form of arrays of lines or miniature characters which give an overall tonal effect. They may be printed by a lithographic or letterpress technique using several differently coloured inks, the colours being applied either discretely or to give a merging rainbow effect. The support sheet may be either a direct positive or a negative to positive paper, an appropriate photographic technique being used to produce an image of the intended card holder's photograph, signature or fingerprint. The sheet is then encapsulated in outer transparent sheets, each having an inner polyethylene and an outer polyethylene terephthalate layer. These sheets are applied with heat and pressure and are united at their edges.
