Abstract
1518645 Colour measurement S SUGA 9 March 1977 09902/77 Heading G1A [Also in Division G2] Colour measurement apparatus for obtaining the three stimulus values x, y, z for a sample 3, comprises: an integrating sphere 1, having a first port 2 for incident light, a second port 4 for the sample 3 to be tested, and a third port 5 for allowing diffusely reflected light from the sample to reach a photo-detector 16, which may be a silicon photocell; a lamp 11; a pair of lenses 6, 7, with a pin hole 8 therebetween, the arrangement being such that parallel beams of light, both direct from the lamp and after reflection from filter mirror 13', 13", or 13"', are caused to illuminate the samples; a heat shield filter 9; a movable carriage 13 for mounting the three filter mirrors; and three filters mounted on a movable frame 17, the pairs of filters and filter mirrors corresponding to the three stimulus values and being arranged to be brought into position, in their corresponding pairs, respectively in front of the photo-cell and behind the light source. Each filter mirror consists of a spherical mirror comprising an evaporated coating of aluminium on, or metallic surface welded to, a filter of glassy material having a transmission factor corresponding to x, y or z. The resultant effect, for each stimulus measurement, of illuminating the sample direct and with light filtered at the source by a filter mirror is stated to provide results closer to theoretically expected values than prior art systems, and figures are given to illustrate this.
