Abstract

This method is used for determining a Doppler frequency. In this method, the number of zero crossings of the input signal (ES) is counted by means of a "bad-value counter", the counter (7) is reset to zero with each ("good") value deviating from the last mean value by less than the predetermined percentage whilst the "bad" measurement values cause the bad-value counter (7) to be incremented; at a particular count, the bad-value counter, bypassing the comparison logic (2), causes the memory (3) to be filled up directly so that the same last value is stored at each storage location and, using the normal arithmetic of the averaging circuit (4), the duration of the last period is calculated as "provisional mean value" which replaces the normally formed mean value during the next evaluating operation so that in the case of initialization with a "good" value, the normal evaluating procedure leads to a valid mean value whilst in the case of initialization with a "bad" value the self-monitoring with the bad-value counter leads to a new initialization process. <IMAGE>
