1518561 Preparation of amino polymers: Hofmann rearrangement R SENJU 6 April 1976 [12 April 1975] 13791/76 Heading C3P An alpha,#-unsaturated amide polymer undergoes a Hofmann rearrangement reaction using a hypohalite in aqueous alkali solution; the first stage, the haloamidation reaction, is conducted within the range - 10 to + 10‹ C. while the second stage, the rearrangement reaction is conducted within the range - 10‹ C. to + 15‹ C. using aqueous alkali of concentration 2-10 moles/litres. In the examples the hypohalite is NaOCl.
