1517590 Recording data JAEGER 16 July 1976 [17 July 1975] 29787/76 Heading G1J In apparatus for storing binary electrical signals representing the speed of a vehicle and the time which has elapsed since the last recording operation at predetermined distance intervals travelled by the vehicle and whenever the vehicle stops, signals I representing incremental distances travelled are applied to a divider 1 the output of which, denoting the coverage of said predetermined distance interval, is applied to a counter 3 to initiate the storing of signals representing speed and elapsed time. The signals are stored in a shift register 13, 14, the oldest signals being lost each time a new pair of speed and distance signals are entered, so that a record for the last N distance intervals, representing a predetermined cyclic distance is stored. Batteries maintain energization of the shift register when the main power supply is lost, e.g. due to an accident to the vehicle, so that the record is not lost. A display 18 shows the most recent value stored in the shift register. To read-out the other values, a switch 11 is moved to contacts 1 to connect the register parts 13, 14 in a loop. Then, each time a push-button 17 is pressed, the message at the end of the register is transferred to the head, and isdisplayed at 18, a counter 19 with a display 20 identifying the position of the message. The speed measurement is received as an analogue voltage E v which is converted to a binary input to a parallelseries register 8 by a closed-loop system 3-6 driven by a clock 7. The register 8 also receives the elapsed time messages from counter 10. A further shift register 23, 24, Fig. 2, may be provided to store logic signals E s representing various functions which change during progress of the (rail) vehicle, e.g. signal state, door closure, automatic control, brake actuation, and a measure of the distances at which these changes of state occur. This register has read-out arrangements similar to the register 13, 14.
