Abstract
1517553 Cooling towers GEA KUHLTURMBAU UND SYSTEMTECHNIK GmbH and HAMON SOBELCO SA 21 July 1975 [26 July 1974] 30496/75 Headings F4K and F4S In a wet or dry cooling tower having a generally upright hyperboloid shell 1, a ring- shaped structure 6 is provided inside the shell at the head (i.e. air outlet) of the tower, and provides at said outlet a local reduction in cross-sectional area (e.g. not exceeding 30%) calculated wholly or partly to prevent the entry of external air or of downdraught eddies and vortices into the tower. In Fig. 2, the ring shaped structure 6 comprises a trough 7, dimensions y and y<SP>1</SP> 8 being alternative widths. The inner upright wall 8 of the trough may extend upwardly beyond the tower shell. The structure 6 may alternatively be a ring of an acute-angled cross-section providing a surface extending inwards and upwards at the top of the shell.
