Abstract

1517528 Discharging hoppers; endless chain conveyers R D BURGESS 25 Sept 1975 [16 Dec 1974] 39402/75 Headings B8S and B8A Particulate material 18 is contained in a receptacle 10 provided with a moving bottom in the form of a conveyer 12 and with a discharge opening 14, the discharge of material through the opening 14 being assisted by means of an inclined endless conveyer 20 on which the assemblies 92 are disposed, the conveyer 20 being pivotable about a shaft 22 such that during motion thereof its lower end is raised and lowered as shown by the double arrows, and the tine assemblies 92 are mounted on the conveyer 20 at relative spacings which are greater than (but less than 1À5 times) the circumference of the lower sprocket wheels 74, 76 about which the conveyer 20 passes, and each time assembly 92 describes an undulating path relative to the surface of the material 18, the path described by each assembly 92 being out of phase with that described by the assembly 92 which preceeds it, as shown by the solid and broken lines in Fig. 1. The conveyer 20 comprises a pair of spaced chains 88, 90 which are driven by respective sprockets (84, 86) mounted on a shaft 22 which is driven by a motor (30), Fig. 6 (not shown). The upper rims of the chains are disposed in respective channels 46, 48 and the lower rims in respective channels 50. The lower sprocket wheels 74, 76 are each eccentrically mounted on a pivot arm 78 so that as the chains are driven the rotation of the wheels 74, 76 causes the upward and downward movement of the lower end of the conveyer. The chains 88, 90 are maintained taut by means of springs 60, Fig. 7, which engage rods 64, 66 connected to the shaft 72 on which the wheels 74, 76 are mounted. Each time assembly 92 comprises a plurality of tines (94), mounted on a support shaft 96 connected by a pair of arms 98 to a plate 100 which is pivotally attached to a chain link, and a link 102 extends from a pivotal connection on the plate 100 to a link which trails the said chain link. This manner of mounting the tine assemblies on the chains results in each tine assembly being pivoted rearwardly as it moves past the discharge opening 14 after leaving the lower arm of the conveyer 20.
