Abstract
1517186 Substituted hydrazides to prevent metal poisoning of plastics WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 27 Aug 1975 [27 Aug 1974] 35312/75 Heading C3K Polymers, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene and polybutene-1, in contact with a metallic element, e.g. copper, which accelerates oxidative degradation of at least a component of the plastics portion are stabilized by incorporating into the plastics portion, which is at least 90% by wt. polymer, exclusive of filler, a stabilizer comprising a compound of the formula wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl substituent. The stabilizer may be a condensation product of oxalyl dihydrazide and a furyl carbonyl compound, preferably a substituted or unsubstituted furyl aldehyde or ketone, e.g. furfural. A sterically hindered phenol may be added to prevent thermal degradation.
