Abstract

1517143 Automatic control THOMSON-CSF 7 March 1977 [9 March 1976] 09573/77 Heading G3N [Also in Division H4] In an arrangement for automatically adjusting an electrical characteristic of a circuit, e.g. the impedance of a tunable filter or a matching circuit for an antenna, optimization of the characteristic is obtained by cyclically exploring different combinations of n reactances, memorizing the combination corresponding to the best adjustment, and switching the reactances to this combination on completion of a cycle. As shown, a matching circuit between a transmitter B and an antenna A has its impedances selectively switched by a binary counter 10, a good match being indicated by a low reflected signal supplied to an amplifier 3 by a directional coupler 1. The output V of amplifier 3 is compared at 4 with the output Vr of a ramp generator 6. As long as Vr < V the voltage Vr remains fixed and counter 10 conducts the cyclic exploration. When V < Vr the ramp voltage Vr is decreased while counter 10 is interrupted until Vr < V again. The combination causing the latest interruption is memorized at 8 and at the end of the cycle is fed to counter 10. The optimal combinations for various frequency bands may be stored in a readonly memory 14 controlled by control circuit 15.
