Abstract
1516681 Flame retardant polyurethane foam STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 13 May 1975 [28 May 1974] 20085/75 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] A condensation product of one or more pentavalent phosphorus oxyacid esters at least one of which is a beta-haloalkyl phosphate or a beta-haloalkyl ester of an organic phosphoric acid and which has been stabilized by treatment with a catalytic amount of a Lewis acid and an alkylene oxide or other oxirane compound in specified manner (see Division C2) to neutralize labile groups present is used as a flame-retardant in a polyurethane foam-forming formulation. An example is given for the incorporation of a stabilized homo-condensation product of tris- (2-chloroethyl) phosphate in a polyurethane foam-forming formulation containing toluene diisocyanate, a commercial polyol and other specified ingredients, the foam being cured for 10 minutes at 125 C.
