1516676 Sound absorbent screen for roads SOC D'ETUDES GENERALES DE CONSTRUCTIONS INDUSTRIELLES ET CIVILES 16 June 1975 25635/75 Heading E1G A sound absorbing screen disposed between a building I of length l and an elongate sound source such as a road comprises a continuous wall portion 1 having a length l+2d located at a distance D from the furthest point of the building, and a plurality of spaced apart posts 2 aligned with the wall portion 1, the posts having a length a and a width b respectively parallel and perpendicular to the sound source, and the spacing between the n<SP>th</SP> and (n-1)<SP>th</SP> part being at most equal to dp<SP>n</SP>+(a-d)p<SP>n-1</SP> where p=D/D-b, whereby all rectilinear paths between the sound source and the building are obstructed by the posts. To protect tall buildings the continuous wall may be part of a tunnel and the posts parts of arches over the road. The posts may be made of prestressed concrete, light alloy, plastics material or plywood, and may have the side facing the building covered by sound absorbent material, or alternatively may be formed hollow from perforated metal sheet and filled by sound absorbent material.
