Abstract

1516375 Television AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 31 Oct 1975 [20 Dec 1974] 45508/75 Heading H4F Apparatus for changing the interlace rate of a rastered display device e.g. in a scanning electron microscope system, and thereby improve the displayed image resolution, comprises a VCO 42 generating a frequency which is a multiple of the horizontal deflection rate and the desired interlace ratios, a counter 50 which reduces the VCO frequency to a frequency equal to the horizontal rate for the desired interlace rate, and a counter 54 which reduces the VCO frequency to a frequency equal to the vertical rate for the desired interlace rate, the counter 54 and thus the VCO being controlled 56 so that the dividend H/V of the horizontal rate H and vertical rate V is a fractional number the fractional portion of which represents the desired interlace rate. H/V equals the number of lines per field and thus if H/V = 262 1/n then the interlace rate is n:1. The VCO is preferably phase-locked 44 to the frequency of the main power supply for the display e.g. 60 Hz. The counter 54 is controlled by variable Modulo control 56. An example is described for changing the interlace ratio between 1:1, 2:1, 4:1, 8:1 and 16:1, and a second example for interlace ratios 1:1, 2:1,3:1,4:1 and 5:1.
