Abstract

1516262 Transparent plastics tube; insulation STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 25 March 1976 12013/76 Heading F2P [Also in Division F4] A tubular structure for use in collecting solar energy comprises a tube 1 surrounded by a tube 2 at least one of the tubes being of extruded plastics material. As shown, the tube 1 is formed of black PVC and is connected by ribs 2a to the outer tube 2 which is formed of transparent plastics material. The spaces 3, 4 between the tubes are air spaces and the space 5 is filled with glass fibre wool. The lower half of the tube 1 has on its outer surface a reflecting layer 6 of aluminium tape. The outer tube 2 is formed with interlocking elements 7, 8 whereby adjacent tubular structures may be clipped together. A single tubular structure may be coiled in a spiral and connected to a header tank, Fig. 3 (not shown), or parallel tubular structures may be clipped together and connected at their ends to plastics headers, Fig. 4 (not shown), to form a panel which may form part of or be supported by the roof of a building, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown).
