Abstract

151,611. Hoist, G., Oosterhuis, E., and Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. Sept. 23, 1919, [Convention date]. High vacua in lamp bulbs, maintaining.-In vacuum &c. apparatus such as thermionic valves, R÷ntgen-ray tubes, or incandescent lamps, gaseous residues are removed or inert gases purified by means of an alloy of an alkali or alkaliearth metal with a nobler metal having a low vapour pressure, such as tin, the alloy being placed in the bulb so as to be heated in order to vaporize the alkali &c. metal, while the other metal does not vaporize perceptibly. The nobler metal protects the alkali &c. metal against moisture and oxidation. An alloy with tin may be applied as a solder upon a metal part in the bulb. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) an alloy having a higher melting point may be used as material for one or more electrodes or conductors. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
