Abstract
To remove binder from an unfired moulding before sintering, the unfired moulding is initially heated to a temperature above the melting point of the binder, for liquifying the binder, and introduced at this temperature into a solvent for the binder in the vapour phase, which solvent is held at a temperature slightly above the melting point of the binder. The solvent vapour then slowly penetrates into the unfired moulding and dissolves the binder contained therein in such a way that no excessive stresses due to expansion of the binder are generated in the interior of the moulding, until the combination of solvent and binder virtually ceases to exude out of the moulding. Subsequently, the moulding is introduced at a temperature above the melting point of the binder into a bath of the solvent, in order to remove binder remaining in the moulding from the latter.
